mackenzierm 's review for:
Nantucket Blue
by Leila Howland
First line: "Even without Holly Howard and Dori Archer, who'd been suspended for drinking on campus, we were supposed to win that game."
I really enjoyed reading this novel. I appreciated the simplicity of it - I could read and get lost in the story of someone else, learn about their problems, and see how their actions would change their situation.
I loved how Cricket really became her own person, and made her way on Nantucket - despite it not being 100% the way she had originally anticipated. I loved the slow kindle of an "illicit" romance, and how so many hopes and dreams came together just to come crashing down.
I think this novel really shows that some of our most coveted dreams do not always turn out the way we want them to, nor are they all that exciting in terms of driving our passion and increasing our happiness.
All in all, a great read to begin the summer!
