This is not a bad book.
It is an ambitious story that wants to be so many things.
It wants to be Narnia.
It wants to be Rapunzel.
It wants to be Lord of the Rings.
It's not any of these things, but not for lack of trying.
It needed more editing, more focus, more reason for being.
If you can make it through the frequent slow parts, this is a good story, with very effective illustrations. I just wish it was better.
