The Turn of the Screw
by Henry James
mysterious
Audiobook 🎧
The beginning of the book had me invested; it felt creepy, ominous and there was some tension starting to build. Things fell a bit flat for me somewhere in the middle, and I got a little bit...bored? The mystery remained, but all the tension evaporated within the overly descriptive writing. I only finished the book because it was a short read and I could put the audiobook on in the background whilst doing household chores, if I'd had a physical copy I would've DNF.
The Governess in the story, and the narrator too, were good examples of 'unreliable narrators' and how that affects the story, but the novel itself just didn't really work for me unfortunately.
