Dragon Bones by Patricia Briggs

5.0

I completely loved this book. It wasn't the typical "lol big mythical dragons, pet my scales and let's go flying" type of "dragon" book.

The main character, Ward, has survived his childhood from his abusive power-hungry father by basically acting like the village idiot. Spoiler spoiler, and now he has to gain favor of his town's allies and prove he's worth respect.

He finds dragon bones under his keep, which are flowing with magic.

I'm not gonna spoil the rest. It is a great read, the characters are fantastic, and for just a two-book series, I really love the world that was built. I'd love to see more from this author like this.
