Now THAT was a story. I kept becoming more and more intrigued by this story with every page! It is a well thought out story of mystery, murder, fantasy, and great characters! The story became more and more intense as it progressed. The world of Telene was really fun to be in. Astrid Scholte paced this book really welly and had the story progressed a perfect pace in my opinion. I never felt lost or that a part of the story was lagging. I enjoyed the courtroom drama and reading all that unfold. Having the entire story mainly take place at the prison, Vardean, was fantastic. I really liked that part of the plot.
The magical world of Edem was so fascinating! Being able to manipulate time and change reality with just the use of this substance?! Crazy! I think we learned a good amount about Edem in the book, but I just know there is SO much more we need to know about it!
Cayder, Leta, Jey, Princess Elenora, and Kema are our main characters we are following along with at Vardean. Out of them all Jey was definitely my favorite. His personality was hilarious to read about. There wasn’t too much character development just more character plot development which was just as good. I liked how overall they all were established with who they are and what they’d do to set the truth free.
Once we got into revealing truths about the Regency and their hidden secrets of Edem the story got wild and just flew by! One minute I had 100 pages left and the next I was finished. ≤spoiler>Discovering the truth about what happened when Dr. Bueter “died” was such a shock! I did not except that to be the real truth!
This book left on such a cliffhanger and I am praying that this will become a series! You can’t just have them walk into the veil and leave the story unfinished! There just feels like there is so much more for this world to be told about especially with Edem and the veil! Do they find Cayden and Leta’s mother? Eleanor’s brother? Do they run into Dr. Bueter on the other side?? I NEED TO KNOW!!
