Wanted to love this and only liked it. I was looking for a problem-solving novel in the vein of [b:The Martian|18007564|The Martian|Andy Weir|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1413706054l/18007564._SY75_.jpg|21825181]--this this at least in part is--but the overlay of "disappointing boy child wrestles with mantagonist Pa" was more distraction than addition to me.

To be clear: that's about me, not the novel. I wanted it to be something it didn't want to be, which isn't fair to the book.

But also that's what happened.
