Fresh Banana Leaves: Healing Indigenous Landscapes through Indigenous Science by Jessica Hernandez

informative reflective slow-paced

The conservation ideas that are presented in this book are very good ones. They are opposing to those of current conservation beliefs and therefore I think she gives a very well rounded argument about why we should change how we look and try to treat environmental issues. That being said, for most of the second half of the book, I felt like the tone changed to one closer to blame. She really made it seem like white people had no place in conservation and that all conservation should be left to the indigenous communities. Although I do believe that indigenous communities do a lot more for the environment and conservation then non-indigenous folks, I still think conservation is an issue that should be tackled by everyone, and therefore we should not be discouraging one group of people.
