50 Ways to Win Back Your Lover by Kelly Siskind is not only her first book in her Bower Boys series, but it is also my first dive into the author herself. After seeing reviews by those who received early copies of the book, I knew I had to grab an ebook ARC when one became available. I had to see what all the fuss was about.
By the title alone, it was to be expected that this story would be based around the Second Chance/Second Shot At Love tropes. With the male lead--as again guessed from the book cover--aiming to win back his lady love. How they came to be parted remains a mystery until you actually turn the pages, as is just how he plans to win her back. All we do know, is that he has 50 ways of doing so and none of them were going to be easy.
The story is as slow-burny as they get which in this case, is far from a bad thing. If there's fifty ways to win someone back, they can't be rushed. Slow-burn romances like this one give the time to paint the picture of the backstory, build up to the present and see where--if anywhere--the storyline goes and where our characters will end up. Sit down and buckle up to read one man’s creative attempt to win back his high school sweetheart after a change in fortune gives them a second chance at love.
Now, let's talk about the main characters who's story is told here. Delilah Moon and Edger Bower. Ripped apart by unforeseen circumstances, the two are thrust back into each other's lives ten years afterwards. Both characters are completely different from how they knew each other a decade ago, and have to re-learn what parts of them remain the same, and get to know which parts are new. Edgar, also known as 'E', is as determined as leading male character come, but for one very good reason. To win back Delilah Moon. As for the woman herself, there's something attached to her which could throw E's plans to the ground, or make him more determined to get her back than ever before. Both know deep down what their hearts and souls truly want, but will who they are today be enough to break down walls and heal the many wounds that their time apart has caused? There's only one way to find out.
50 Ways to Win Back Your Lover was a story that despite taking a little bit of time getting used to with the opening chapters, was one that I was glad I took the plunge with. Page by page, I certainly saw what the hype and praise was about. Kelly Siskind shows the world here that first impressions are everything--if you're reading this as your first introduction to her as I am--, and impressed I was. I'll definitely be back for more Bower Boys.
