Beautiful, sad and tragic.

This short story has been shortlisted as a nominee for a Hugo award.

I can see why. The writing flows wonderfully, the characters are vivid and believable - and the worldbuilding is amazing for such a short story.

My only quibble is that as much as I love the above - I just can't love the story as a whole. I feel luke it is missing something. I just can't put my finger on what though.
