Do you want to unapologetically snort-laugh and shoot coffee out your nose? Are you a 20-something small town girl looking for relatable content?? Look no further. Reading Mercado’s book of essays is like having a sleepover with your best friend. She let’s you in on the would-be embarrassing stories of growing into an adult in the 99s/early 2000s (they are NOT embarrassing because she tells them so well, like sharing a hilarious secret).

Did I feel called out when she talked about the GREATEST SCENT OF ALL TIME — “Flannel” by bath and body works?? Yes. Did I immediately buy a flannel candle?? Yes. Thank you for the reminder, Mia.

When she discussed AIM did I recoil upon remembering my old screen name “blueblueblui45”? Named because I was an 8th grade anime girl who wanted to rename myself “Blui”? Only a little bit.

I recommend this book for the best laughs and the best moments of semi-shameful nostalgia. You won’t regret it.
