At first I was convinced the author was closer to my age (late 40s) than the main character’s age (16) because so many of the musical references were Gen X touchstones—The Cure, The Police, Whitney Houston, Depeche Mode, to name just a few. But nope, the author is only around 22, she just has old people taste in music. Nevertheless, the book made me legit cry happy/emotional tears by the end, so it has earned its full five stars.
Graphic: Outing, Classism, Racism, and Racial slurs
Moderate: Abandonment, Alcohol, Fatphobia, Sexual content, and Vomit
Minor: Medical content
