This book is so highly recommended whenever someone mentions the word "introvert." As an introvert who is struggling in an extroverted culture (USA) I couldn't wait to get my hands on this book.

So, I read it. And I returned it to the library about halfway through. I was disappointed.

My disappointment was due to my own misunderstanding of what this book's intentions were. Not because the book failed to deliver.

What the book IS: a compilation of extensive research that points out how introverts are just as important and just as needed in this world as extroverts. It points out the many well known people throughout history that were introverts and thanks to their introverted ways, made very important marks in our history.

What this book IS NOT: a "how-to" guide for introverts on how to survive living in an extroverted world. The book does throw in a few tips here and there, but "tips" are not the theme of the book.

The latter is why I was disappointed. As a person who is a newly discovered introvert, I am struggling to find my place in this world. I am also struggling to learn how to listen to my introversion and be ok with just being quiet. (That's what 37 years of extroverts telling me I'm doing it all wrong will do to ya!) So I was looking for a book that could help, basically, guide me on how to be an introvert! But after I decided to put down this book I re-read the synopsis and then realized that my disappointment was my own fault!

Beautifully written. The research is extremely thorough. I definitely will recommend this book to other introverts!
