Quo Vadis? by Henryk Sienkiewicz

5.0

I decided in choosing ‘classic’ texts, to look at the work of Nobel prize winners. Henry Sienkiewicz is one of the earliest recipients. Bear with the first three history-laden chapters and once the story is underway it proves to be a fascinating, almost page-turning thriller which is also an in depth exploration of the psychology of attraction. It is also an enlightening, brave, look at the cruelty and debauchery of Nero’s Rome. I am not religious, but it brought home to me just how different and compelling the philosophy of Christ was at the time , in demanding of his followers that they live by mercy and love to all. Would that today’s espoused adherents still held to it.
