this book read like a funky little fusion of ACOWAR and The Hunger Games. that being said, this read was SO fun. it was so enjoyable partly because of its simplicity (given that it's a YA novel) and its level of predictability. I didn't have to do a lot of thinking to enjoy the book, which was the exact energy I needed right now. this is partly due to its setting--this book doesn't depart heavily from the real world, making it easier to digest. also, despite how predictable parts of the story were, I still found myself getting chills and tearing up at certain scenes.
Iris was an endearing MC and I found myself rooting for her more and more as time went on. my only qualm was thatI felt like there was a really weird jump in the relationship between Iris and Carver/Kitt. the I love you's felt so sudden and I felt like I was lacking adequate information to understand this shift in their relationship. regardless, I do plan on reading Ruthless Vows to see how this ends!
if you're looking for a YA romantasy that's full of shocks and twists, this might not be the one for you. but if you're looking for a light, easy, simple romantasy read, I'd recommend this one!
