Master of Restless Shadows, Volume 1 by Ginn Hale
5.0
This is it. This is the one. The one in the Cadeleonian universe that will never leave me. All books so far were excellent - but this one has a VERY special place in my heart already, easy 5 stars.
Everything Ginn Hale touches turns gay - and it's glorious. We have the usual Cadeleon-typical violence and sexism and homophobia - even transphobia in here but it's all done so gracefully I think I'm in love with the author.
Narsi and Atreau are easily the most likeable pair of protagonists to me so far. They're so charming and wonderful and of course have their own share of problems but I loved having a protagonist that's not in the least knowledgeable about fighting but an accomplished physician. Narsi is so naturally charming and I just want them to be happy together at the end.
Also, I was so pleased to see more of Fedeles. This is the first time were getting insight into his trauma and coping and hopes and dreams and what kind of man he became... I shed tears and if things with him and Ariz end badly (which I am assuming) I WILL LOSE MYSELF AND GO APESHIT AND CRY FOR 3 WEEKS AND EAT ICE CREAM BY THE TUB. And Ariz....... oh Ariz.... I wasn't expecting to fall in love with all pf these 4 POV characters but here I am.
ALSO, this quote in particular stood out to me so much I immediately made it my Twitter bio because it touched me so:
What I'm trying to say is this one is a MASTERPIECE and I offer my soul up to Ginn Hale, just take it.
You know what I actually enjoy the most? Ginn Hale books scratch that itch I have for fantasy books that just so happen to have LGBT people. It has a compelling story - and the characters are just gay or trans. I'm always looking for things like these. I love u so much

Spoiler
“It’s a hard thing to lose a possibility. They are all we can imagine of our futures.” [...] "But at the same time it's a hopeless venture to lament what never existed outside of imagining. There are too many things that will never come to pass."What I'm trying to say is this one is a MASTERPIECE and I offer my soul up to Ginn Hale, just take it.
