Animal Farm by George Orwell

This book was just not what I remembered from English lit class. While in a lot of ways it still seems quite relevant, particularly in light of this year's election shenanigans, it also seems dated and tailored specifically to warn about the dangers of Communism under Stalin. I'd also forgotten just how shallow and obvious a story it was. One of the things I like best about books is the ability to make you sympathize with the characters, but I didn't find myself interested or involved in any of the character's actions here. For a book that's often held up as a classic example of political satire and lampooning, it felt much more like a line-by-line allegory for Stalinist Russia.

Overall just a disappointing experience for me, and one that I probably won't be revisiting.
