“Nature creates horrors enough all by itself”

I really love T. Kingfisher’s writing style. I just vibe with that effortless mix of humour and horror. And while this was another fun and spooky journey with Alex Easten, it just didn’t hit the same as ‘What Moves the Dead’.

This book had all the elements and characters that I adored in the first instalment, yet something didn’t click the same way. This novella really wanted to have a slow-burn, and unfortunately the novella format really worked against it. The pacing just felt a bit, off.

But don’t get me wrong, this was still a good time - it just doesn’t live up to its predecessor. But I love T. Kingsfisher, and will read pretty much anything she writes.
