Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass
by Frederick Douglass
Inspiring. Truly inspiring. Douglass was a man of great intellect and the more he learned, the more he suffered with the injustice of his enslavement. This narrative is written so beautifully that I was almost reduced to tears countless times, which is saying a lot for me. To go from reading of his time as transferable real estate to reading the line, “I was now my own master,” brought an ache to my heart that is beyond my capacity of comprehension.
