The Tale of Despereaux by Kate DiCamillo

5.0

The first book I ever read of Kate DiCamillo's was "The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane." It is, to this day, on of my favorites. I never thought to read another one of her books until my sister told me to read this one. And so I did. This book was so good. There were many things I liked. I liked how DiCamillo addressed the reader throughout the story. For some, it might distract from the story, but for me, this made it more engaging. When the narrator tells you to imagine yourself in the shoes of Miggery Sow, or tell you that hearts that mend and are put together in the wrong way never truly belong anywhere, I felt so much more impacted. And the Coda of this book was simply fantastic. So would I recommend? Yes. 1,000%. The Tale of Despereaux is as engaging as it is heartwarming. Somehow, DiCamillo has two books that have become my favorites in less than 300 pages. Frankly, that's impressive, and I think she's now one of my favorite authors.
