Ibsen’s reputation had always scared me off. He’s reputed to be dull and stodgy. He isn’t. The plays are gripping.

A note: Enemy of the People is translated here as A Public Enemy. The translator explain that he finds the latter more natural in English. A rare misjudgment IMO. As Donald Trump has prove “enemy of the people” flows quite naturally in English. I look forward to seeing Jeremy Strong in a few weeks in a production running on Broadway.
