Origin by Jennifer L. Armentrout

5.0

(I'll apologize from now for the long review, but I couldn't summarize it anymore.)
Well, this is what I call a GREAT book. It had enough action, drama, romance and even humor, in a very good balance.
The story begins a little further from where we left it in [b:Opal|13362536|Opal (Lux, #3)|Jennifer L. Armentrout|http://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/books/1348200300s/13362536.jpg|18591132]. Katy is in hands of Daedalus and Daemon is desperate to find her. There's no spoiler in that.
It was great having both Katy and Daemon's POV. We get to see what they think about some stuff and, sometimes, we get both POV's of the same situation, which makes it WAY more interesting.
What I liked most about Daemon's POV was that we can truly see how much he loves Katy, like when he is talking to Ethan:
The Elder sneered. "Is she truly worth this?"
A cold wind moved down my spine. Without the support of the Luxen community, I'd be on my own, not welcomed in any of their colonies. Word traveled fast; Ethan would make sure of it. But there wasn't a moment of hesitation.
"Yes", I said. "She is worth everything".

Ok, my next 2 favourite Daemon's POVs are huge spoilers.
Spoiler"God, thinking about rings ant the left hand made me want to get out of this vehicle and do about a hundred laps, but being married to Kat-married? My brain tripped up over that word, but it wouldn't be terrible. Nah, it would be far from that. It would be sort of...perfect. Spending the rest of my life with Kat was something I planned on. There was no question or doubt when it came to that. I saw her-only her-in my future."
What?!? Marriage... the guy was thinking about getting married... Oh my God!! Where can I get one of those for me? Maybe it's because he's from outer space. Yeah, that must be the answer, because guys over here freak out over any labeled relationship.
"I want to spend every second, every minute, every hour with you." Part of me couldn't believe something that cheesy had come out of my mouth, but it was also so beautifully true. "I want a year's worth of seconds and minutes with you. I want a decade's worth of hours, so many that I can't add them up."
Her chest rose sharply as she stared at me, eyes widening.
I took one more step and then went down on one knee in front of her, in a towel. Probably should have put some pants on. "Do you want that?" I asked.
Kat's eyes met mine, and the answer was immediate. "Yes. I want that. You know I want that."
"Good." My lips curved up. "So let's get married."

Ok. I must admit I cried over this one... I had a Cheshire Cat kind of smile, and tears in my eyes. I honestly think it was a perfect, kind of nerdy, way to propose. And it was damn beautiful.

Nancy Husher. I swear I picture her as the "bad alien" from The Host. All stiff and pretending to be doing the right thing and being nice when, underneath, she is a major bitch. The scientific crush she had on Daemon freaked me out.
"I glanced up at Nancy, finding her watching me like I was her prized bull. I had a feeling that even if I ran from room to room, zapping people to death, she wouldn’t bring the big guns out. Not unless I did something crazy insane.
I was just too special.
"
I love that there were still some humoristic parts within all the drama going on. For example, I love how, even being kept by Daedalus, Katy still cares about books and her blog:
- "Man, I missed books already."
- "What about school? You want an uneducated hybrid running amuck? What about my mom? My friends? What about my life? My blog?"

We also get to see Daemon's sense of humor in a very unusual situation to be funny:
"Mystery is overrated. I want to get to know every freckle and every curve on a personal level."
"I think you did that last night."
"Nah". He shook his head. "That was just a meet and greet. I want to know their hopes and dreams."
. That was an incredibly hot kind of funny. It's what I mean when I say I want a funny guy.
Archer... For those of you who haven't read the book, he is one of the officers of Daedalus, the one in charge of guarding Katy.
SpoilerSince the beggining I loved him and hoped he could be part of a rebellion against Daedalus. So when I found out he was an Origin, I thought it would be WAY cooler to have him on their side.
"We have a mutual friend, Katy". When I read this phrase I was doing mental backflips, screaming YAAAYY!! at the top of my lungs.

There were some parts that had me freaking out, like when Katy gets some insight of what Daedalus is doing, and they ask for their help. I'll admit it would be pretty hard to decide whether to be helping diseased people and kind of saving the world, and helping dudes not knowing if they really want to "subjugate mankind" and stuff. I mean, in normal circumstances is difficult to tell who can we trust, but in this situations, when the world's destiny is at stake, it's just plain impossible to decide, and not even the best Pros and Cons yellow pad can help.
HOLY.SHIT.Origins... I-I don't... I just... I'm scared like hell.
SpoilerThose freaky creatures... I thought they were some kind of hybrid between Luxen and Arum, but then we learn that they are the descendants of Luxen and Hybrids, like real, but creepy, babies and stuff. So now we know what Luc and Archer are, and what they can do.
When they release the little Origins, Katy thinks: "It seemed like a long way to travel for the little origins to get out, but then again, they were like baby Einsteins on crack."
I still don't know why, but I laughed really hard with this phrase. It kind of lightened the whole "we are on a suicidal mission trying to escape Area 51, with a dude we don't know if we can trust, by releasing a bunch of really creepy kids with special abilities that may or may not turn against us or destroy the world" situation.

Blake. Well, I've always hated him, and we know he is part of Daedalus, so, no surprise there.
SpoilerI'm happy he died. I know, it sounds awful, but I am. He was such a bastard, and he ruined everyone's lives. What I don't like is Katy feeling guilty for being the one who killed him.

Last but not least, Daemon's famiy. Of course, they're all worried sick about Kat. Beth and Dawson know first hand what she's going through. Dee, even though is still hurt, is also super worried. Sorry, but the next part is a huge list of spoilers.
Spoiler
Beth and Dawson: since they appeared in the mansion, after Katy and Daemon's escape, and she was always tired and in bed, I suspectedshe was pregnant. Especially with this conversation: "It's been a lot of traveling," Dawson elaborated. "It's kind of worn me out, too."
He didn't look worn out. If anything, he looked like he was bursting at the seams. His green eyes were particularly bright, especially every time he looked at Beth. Which was all the time.
"Eat," he said quietly to her. "You need to eat at least two of these."
I mean, she said she said she feels great, but she's exhausted; Dawson says he is tired too, to take her out of the spotlight; the fact that Katy mentions he looked like he was bursting at the seams; and when he tells her to eat AT LEAST TWO, is the tipical phrase you say to a pregnant woman. So it didn't surprise me when they confirmed it.
Matthew: TREASON. That is the only acceptable word that comes to my mind right now. That son of a gun!! I cannot believe he would be THE traitor, the one that started it all with Dawson and Beth. I can't accept the fact that he was the one that betrayed all of them... I mean, Matthew?!? Who on Earth (and beyond) would believe he was who turned them in?? I'm sooo pissed off. Mainly because I ended up liking the guy, and he turned out to be a major traitor.
Dee: she forgives Katy. I'm so happy about that. And she is into Archer?? Hell yeah!!
Andrew and Ash: They go to help them and end up being killed?!? What the hell?!? I mean, I never liked any of them, but they were like family to the Blacks, so it kind of hurted.
