Charcoal Tears by Jane Washington

This was the first New Adult, as well as reverse harem, series I'd ever read. I have to admit I loved it! It's a page-turner that sucked me in and didn't let me eat or sleep for days because I had to know what happened next.

Was it perfect? No. There were some editing issues. I had to read many paragraphs over a few times to understand what actually happened, particularly in action sequences. And even though the story is set in the U.S., the grammar and spelling is in British English. The spellings didn't bother me as much as the grammar, such as using "to" instead of "than" (as in "This is different to that."). And the characters used the phrase "freaking out" far too much, which made the older characters sound much less mature than they otherwise were.

But the romance scenes were great, as were the primary and secondary characters. Some of them had a great sense of humor that I've rarely come across in books. When I finished with this series, I immediately wanted to find more like it to fill the void it created in me. However, I have yet to find anything quite like it. I look forward to re-reading this series, and hope to see what else the author writes in the future.
