I’m usually a fan of Ali Hazlewood books, but this one didn’t stick out to me. I don’t hate it, but I didn’t fall in love with any of the characters, and I especially hated the side characters. I understand what she was trying to do with Rue, but sometimes her character fell slightly too bland. I thought Eli was fine until that one scene in his office with Rue. Again, get what she was trying to do, but I don’t think she wrote it well. Or maybe it's just a personal thing of mine, and I don’t like “dark romance” (if you can even call this book dark romance..)
I appreciated the trigger warnings at the beginning of the book, but I wish she hadn’t given away the ending. I know that despite everything in a typical romance book, the characters were going to get together, but I don't know. I still don’t like the book giving that away so easily.
Graphic: Eating disorder, Sexual content, Death of parent
Moderate: Child abuse, Stalking, Abandonment
