Razorblade Tears by S.A. Cosby

This book hit like a brick through a stained-glass window.

We came into this one expecting a revenge thriller. What we got was a gut-wrenching story about two fathers — Ike and Buddy Lee — grieving, raging, and stumbling through the emotional wreckage of who they were and who they’re still trying to be.

It’s fast. It’s violent. It’s unforgiving. But underneath all that blood and busted knuckles is something real: shame. Regret. That too-late ache to love your kid better than you did when it counted.

One thing we kept coming back to in the episode was how honest this book is about masculinity and identity. You don’t get a clean redemption arc here. These men aren’t magically “better.” They’re still broken — they just decide to keep walking. And that’s what made it hit.

We joked on the pod about the “check engine light” always flashing when life seems stable — this book is like that light. It reminds you that grief doesn’t wait for convenience, and healing doesn’t always come with closure.

This isn't just about revenge. It's about who you are when the worst thing has already happened — and who you choose to be after.
