Water's Wrath by Elise Kova

Oh no I forgot all that happened and now I'm crying

I did not deserve this today.

More of the same relationship angst, but it keeps working and I'm totally fine with it. This is one of those series that doesn't pull punches, lots of bad things happen. In many books I have read in the past the main romance is almost always in the forefront at the cost of plot progression, these books are not like that. The romance is as always, sweet, angsty, pining, and frustratingly halted. But, even when all of the bad happens, Aldrik and Vhalla prevail and they always have each other.

With the end of the war and Vhalla being given her title as a Lady of the Court, she thought she would live happily ever after with her prince. Unfortunately, due to Aldrik's dad being the worst, he finds himself engaged instead to a Princess from the North. In the end of the previous book, he pushes Vhalla away, not seeing a way to keep his promises to her. She runs, he loses it a little, and then she comes back and finds herself back in his orbit all over again.

I have loved Jax endlessly since we first met him, and I was glad to see him as much as we did. He is part of Baldair's Golden Guard, and I want to kiss him right on the mouth. There's lots of Baldair in this book, too, and he is the best brother ever.
