Slight Spoilers (but nothing major):
I gave this books 4.5 stars because this book was not a full five stars but it was still phenomenal. I do not even know where to begin with this review. I am convinced Colleen Hoover laced the pages with her book with something because I was absolutely enthralled. I could not put this book down. For a while, I was afraid to read this book because of the heavy subject the book deals with. Colleen Hoover does a fantastic job at portraying domestic abuse and the cycle of trauma. It hurts even more knowing that it reflects what Hoover herself witnessed as a child. It makes it so much more real and personal. Maybe it was because i had heard a lot about the book from BookTok, but I never trusted Ryle. His vibes were off from the beginning. While like Lily, the readers are supposed to be falling love with this ideal version of him, there are subtle red flags that alert the readers to what Ryle will become. Literally the first time we meet him, Ryle is beating a chair. The way he talks about not wanting a family and putting his chair first? Those are perfectly fine things to want but for me it was the way he said it. I could talk for a while about the complexities of the characters. That is what made the book so good to me. The ending had me speechless. I really appreciated that Hoover emphasized that you can be mad/angry at someone you love for deeply hurting you. The duality of Lily's feelings towards Ryle is so real. I mean there are somethings I didn't love about the book but it was mostly small little writing things.
To make a long review short, THIS BOOK IS SO DAMN GOOD
Graphic: Domestic abuse, Sexual content, Gaslighting, Injury/Injury detail
