Philosophy: A Very Short Introduction by Edward Craig

Did not finish book.

4.0

admittedly, I didn't read this entirely of my own free will (if I have any at all, but that's a question for another day) because I did and buy and read it with the intent of putting it on my personal statement, and it does a very good job of being useful for that purpose. but, it's also a good text in its own right - Craig's writing is smooth, and his choice of topics neither too narrow nor too wide to make philosophy feel impossible to navigate. I would keep in mind that some points are difficult to understand without being able to read the text he's talking about, making this a far more expensive and time consuming introduction than it might first seem if you want to do it properly. but, that isn't necessary - it's a good starting point in its own right
