If Cats Disappeared From The World by Genki Kawamura

Did not finish book. Stopped at 40%.
First of all, the title is kind of a clickbait.

The beginning is powerful; the protagonist discovers he has a terminal disease
brain cancer
, and he starts questioning what he truly wants to do in his life in his remaining days. The devil appears to him to make an offer: he will give him one more day to live if he makes something disappear from the world. Now the question is, what can we live without, and what can we not?

Well, this question is touched on in a very surface-level way. (Or am I being too harsh?) Also, it did not feel like the protagonist (after the devil appeared) was not very impacted by the fact that he was literally...dying.

I completely lost it after he chose to make his last call to his ex rather than his DAD. Like ...really??Also, their whole backstory (with the ex, I mean) is so unnecessary and boring. Did not move the plot in any direction, in my opinion. This is when I checked out.

I was interested enough to spoil the ending for myself, and I say it's quite satisfying. Other than that, if the book was any longer, I don't think it would've been worth going through it (if it was kept at the surface level).

I do find it funny that he has a cat named Cabbage tho.
