Read this in high school but reread it now because my goddaughter has chosen to read it for fun and was blown away by it (she loves the dystopian genre and wrote a poem based on Fahrenheit 451 last year and read it at a poetry slam - she's cerebral and passionate, and she's pretty amazing). Thought it would be fun to talk about it after she was done. My opinion of it hasn't changed in all these years.
Pedantic and overly obvious (main characters are named Lenina and Bernard Marx). A lot of Marxism and counterarguments blanket the book including how religion can be the opiate of the masses, loss of freedom and control, Puritanism, what constitutes the greater good, the right to be unhappy, etc.
Good read for high school. Still a relevant cautionary tale against the dangers of communism and fascism. I can see how my goddaughter's brain is making the connections between her world today and the book. Hence, it passes the test of time and will remain a classic.
