For a romance book with cartoon people on the cover - this is about as good as it gets. This met the hype for me. Gene, a transmasc baseball player romances a new arrival on the team and there’s some pre-existing history to work through . It’s got everything I needed. A fluffy but very candid, authentic portrayal on transness and queerness. Joyful and optimistic. Gorgeous, likeable characters both in the central romance and supporting. A nice arc with slow build romantic tension and obstacles that feel realistic and necessary. Plenty of smut. Quickly invested in these characters. I do not care about baseball at all but the team’s journey added a nice counterbalance to cheer for alongside the romance. Overall just really sweet queer romance lit.
