A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness

5.0

{Summer 2018}
"Your mind will believe comforting lies while also knowing the painful truths that make those lies necessary. And your mind will punish you for believing both."
"If you speak the truth, the monster whispered in his ear, you will be able to face whatever comes."

As vitally important - and as as emotional a mess - as the first time around. It's breathtaking how [a:Patrick Ness|370361|Patrick Ness|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1244216486p2/370361.jpg] has created this modern yet timeless dark fairytale that conquers so much in so little - the way he sythetizes everything in this dazzling yet heartbreaking coccoon of words is really something wondrous. It's hard for a heart not to be captivated by Conor's story, and I am immensely glad I decided to relive it. Much like most people's experience with this book, it will stay with me for a very long time to come.

"But what is a dream, Conor O'Malley? the monster said, bending down so his face was close to Conor's.
Who is to say that it is not eveything else that is a dream?"

I wasn't expecting for this to be so short and to go by so fast and to be as freaking amazing and extraordinary as it was. The highlight for me was definitely the message, and maybe even more, the way Patrick Ness delivered and orchestrated that message. It was amazingly written and thought-provoking. I was an emotional mess by the time I turned the last page...
