The Marvelous Land of Oz by L. Frank Baum

adventurous funny lighthearted
  • Loveable characters? Yes
  • Diverse cast of characters? It's complicated

4.5

The Oz books continue to delight. I was very excited to meet Tip and he (and his companions) were as I hoped: a little chaotic and very humerous, with a deep sense of comradery. I must say, though, that I wasn't all that fond of Tip's companions (namely Jack,
the Saw Horse
, and
The Thing
): they stressed me out with their fragile nature and constant concerns in regards to it. It was a delight to see the Scarecrow and the Tin Woodsman return in such large roles; they've become a little different in their time away from Dorothy but they're just as loveable. ☺️

This book was close to a five, but I chose to round down because an element of overthinking in the narrative hampered the joy of adventure for me in places.
