When a book is as hyped as Fourth Wing is, you worry it won’t live up to the hype. No need to worry here.

Violet Sorrengail is the daughter of a general and has been trained to enter the Scribe Quadrant at 20. Her mother has different ideas and all Sorrengail’s are sent to the Riders Quadrant to become a Dragon rider, although she may not make it through the first challenge let alone the first year. Everyone wants her dead because she is the General’s daughter and most consider her weak, but Violet is set to prove them wrong.

Xaden Riorson is a third year and the son of a disgraced soldier. Xaden bears a traitor’s mark, as do all children of the traitors. His life is forever changed once Violet walks onto the Parapet to cross into the Riders Quadrant.

Rebecca Yarros has built a unique world and has placed in it some amazing characters. Violet may have a chronic illness but survives the brutal world of the Riders quadrant using her brain, tenacity and a good dose of luck. I loved the chemistry between Violet and Xaden and also their relationships with their dragons. The dragons have some of the best, snarky lines in the book.

After that ending I can’t wait for book 2 which thankfully is out later in the year.

Is this worth the hype? Abso-f#%*ing-lutely.
