Piranesi is beautifully and poetically written. The reader’s understanding unfolds almost in tandem with the main character’s  — slightly ahead at times because we know of this world, but behind at others because we know nothing of his. There are no convoluted attempts to explain the mysteries and workings of the other world — it just is, and that is enough. 

I look forward to reading Susanna Clarke’s other works.
