A Boy and His Dog at the End of the World by C.A. Fletcher

4.0

I did really enjoy this book. I felt like the world was framed just enough to understand what mattered while still leaving things unknown. I enjoyed the concept of unreliable narrators and how people tell stories and tell their truths.

I also felt like creating a relationship with a character who doesn’t speak the same language in a book is an incredible feat.

There was a chunk of the book that moved fairly slowly for probably 30 pages. I don’t know anything about boats so reading about maneuvering a boat was a slog for me. I also felt like the gap between Griz getting to the crutches and then meeting the boar was a bit of a slog.

Finding Joy was incredible, and Griz being a girl was incredible, especially in how subtly you’re convinced Griz is a boy when in retrospect there’s no reason to think that.

And naturally, it all comes down to men treating women horribly and raping them under the premise of God’s will. Classic.
