Dracula by Bram Stoker

4.0

3.5 - whilst I understand and agree with the criticism of Stoker’s work being very “traditional” surrounding how the women are written in this book, I am not prepared to impose a viewpoint on someone writing in the 1800s who did not have the perspectives to the extent that we have now. So, whilst I do think that it is good that people are acknowledging this, I’m not going to give this book a low rating because of it. Aside from this, I did enjoy most of it, I actually didn’t mind how little Dracula himself, ironically, was in it. But the pacing was inconsistent. The first half of this book was better than the second which dragged but the parts that I was interested in (like the ending itself) was very rushed.

I would still recommend this if you’re trying to get more into classics, it’s very easy to read. It was told through journal entries & whilst there was never a perspective from Dracula, I was still captivated in understanding how much he affected the lives of those around him.
