The Girl Who Escaped from Auschwitz
by Ellie Midwood
What a brilliantly written book. Extremely sad, devastating and unbelievable, but also full of hope and love in a place where that was thought to be non-existent.
I love that this book is based wholly on survivors’ stories, making the book true to fact. It was so well written, I felt like I was there. I could feel the emotions, imagine the scenarios and my heart went out to every single person who was harmed.
A lot of other reviews mark this book rating low and say Ellie romanticised the story, but the point is, this book is fiction, it is based off survivor’s memories, but is not a memoir in any way, so in my opinion, romanticising the dialogue is absolutely fitting for this book. Ellie has not done any of the characters any disrespect at all, and I think she told the story very well.
