Half of a Yellow Sun
by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie
I have not read such a good novel in a long, long time. Finding a novel with such beautifully written characters who are perfectly woven into the story is rare. The period following Nigerian independence and the uncertainty that followed during the Biafran war sets the backdrop for the story, which is marvelously told through each character's experiences and perceptions rather than as a compilation of facts. I was hooked by the second page and could not put the book down until I finished the last page, which I had to reread three times because I could not believe that there was nothing left for me. I was so impressed by the young author's writing style and ability -- in short Half of a Yellow Sun is a breathtaking, touching, and skillfully written tale.
