Desertion by River Savage

4.0

Another good addition to the series.
This is the story of Jesse. Jesse is an ex-marine, haunted by his experiences in Afghanistan. Guilt and regret burn his insides all the time. He is cocky, a player and hides behind a mask of indifference all the time.
When innocent and inexperienced Bell is thrown in his path, his life takes an unexpected turn. He wants her in his bed but his flirting isn't getting him anywhere until Bell realizes that he can help her locate her lost sister, Paige.
Bell's sheltered life is going to be shaken the moment Jesse agrees to help her and she will have to be strong. Jesse tries but fails to keep their relationship purely physical and when she gets too close, his inner demons will come forth, threatening their fragile relationship.

I liked the storyline. The pace was fast and I loved that we got real insight to Jesse's pain. Bell was desperate for help and I think that made her weak to Jesse's sometimes too abrupt ways. I found him very short with Bell at times and I would have liked it if she had been stronger when it came to him. She didn't deserve his cruelty most of the time, although I must admit that she too needed to change her ways.
I loved that we got glimpses of the other Rebels couples. Nix, Kadence, Sy & Holly really added to the story and made it even more entertaining.
If you are a fun of the series, then this book won't disappoint you.
