The Round House
by Louise Erdrich
This book is phenomenal. It is the kind of book that you want to keep reading, that you never want to end. The writing gave me the opportunity to get to know the characters really well, with even the minor characters being incredibly well-developed.
The best part about this novel, though, is the way it dealt with the rape of an aboriginal woman, the gaps between Federal and Reservation laws, and how each character dealt with the assault and the ensuing events. The writing is at once beautiful and heart-breaking, as well as informative, and even funny in places. I cried. I laughed. I was transfixed by the writing and the story. I even went back and read several scenes again. I may even read the whole novel a second time.
I highly recommend this novel!
