All About Love: New Visions by bell hooks

4.0

This book killed what was left of my inner cynic from my loveless 20s. It gave me permission to be a full love enthusiast. While reading this book I became a big squishy ball of love and compassion and injected it into all of my relationships (the good AND tumultuous ones). And what do you know, I have watched them all perk up like freshly watered plants. It’s been pure magic.

I especially loved the chapters on Justice/children, Community, Greed, and Loss.

My only criticisms would be that the analysis is rooted in the gender binary. I would have loved for space to be made for a queer and gender non conforming perspective. I also didn’t resonate with the biblical anecdotes. Still think it’s worth the read though!
