Drink up me hearties, yo ho!

It took a little while to get there, but this was an entertaining and educational journey through the Golden Age of Piracy. It is thoroughly researched, especially given the age of the source material and the fact that many items from this time period were either lost to history or to the sea, and provides an interesting perspective into the decade-ish period of peak piracy and the events that led up to that era.

I do feel like the author had a difficult time getting his footing in the early stages of the novel, and I found it rather difficult to follow along with the jumps in time and place. However, around chapter 5 it really began to pick up speed and we cruised at full sail from there on out. It was great fun learning about the true nature of these iconic historical characters, the events that transpired, and where the myths and legends surrounding these characters (whether true or false) originated from.

Pirates, their history, and their lore have always fascinated me. There is a wealth of information presented in this book and a cursory discussion given to even more events that I can't wait to explore further.

Side note: The Republic of Pirates feels like a bit of a misnomer as there was not much attention given to the actual pirate republic founded at Nassau. This is item number one on the list of pirate topics that I will be investigating :)
