Policing Black Lives: State Violence in Canada from Slavery to the Present by Robyn Maynard

5.0

Such an important read for all Canadians, as this breaks down the racist, and misogynistic history of Canada. I really enjoyed how much focus there was on Black Women, the LGBTQIA2S+ community, and the Sex Work community. I've always found in many books that talk about these subjects always seem to forget or ignore the Sex Work community especially, but also how much harm is done to the LQBTQIA2S+ community with policing.
Policing is harmful to many communities, and creates more dangerous conditions for children, women, and men alike. This leads to much psychological, and physical harm that leads to negative lifelong impacts.
It was really important for me to read this book as it's about Canada and it was very beneficial for me to learn more about this.
