This book is unexpectedly a Feminist gem in the world of historical romance. First of all, I LOVED the plot twist that genevieve completely figured out the dukes plan of seducing and then abandoning her. He underestimated her, and he learns from it. The first time I've read a book where the female lead is clever and witty, and not just described as that. Second the relationship with sex is so healthy??? It really the bare minimum but (unfortunately) in historical romance not a given.
"She’d done it for herself; she had not been seduced, so much as she’d participated in a new world of pleasure. And she should feel wicked. But she felt powerful. That she should know such pleasure, do something so incredible,"

Like it's so good!??? I've never read something like this before in such a book. I find that even though I'm not ashamed to admit I love hist. Romance. Even I, like the duke, judged a book by its cover!
The only thing I did not like was the notion that marrying your best friend isn't a good idea because its "boring". Passion is fleeting. Friendship is forever.
That and that you have to have trauma to be interesting. Like wutttt???
