An Egg on Three Sticks by Jackie Fischer

5.0

One day twelve-year-old Abby comes home to find her mother gone and a neighbor in her kitchen. Before she is even told what happened, she starts thinking back over the past few months to put together clues about her home life. After her mother is sent to a mental hospital, Abby struggles to grow up without a mother, to grow up period, with a war waging in Vietnam. I can't tell too much else without giving away a lot, but this book is a must-read. I didn't know what to expect from this book, but I was hooked after the first few pages and absolutely loved it overall.
