I usually love gothic fiction, but these short stories just did not do it for me. The concepts themselves are really interesting, but the actual execution is overly verbose and littered with random racist or sexist remarks that come out of nowhere (and yes, I know it's a product of its time, but I personally don't enjoy reading that kind of stuff in any context, especially when it brings nothing to the plot itself). Overall, it was just slightly below 'fine' in terms of rating. Some stories were better than others, but overall this collection averages out to 'meh'.
