Straight: The Surprisingly Short History of Heterosexuality by Hanne Blank

4.0

wow. this was one hell of a read. I had to read it for my Sociology of Sexuality class [WMST 2233] with Dr. C. Lynn Carr at my university.

actual rating: 4 stars

+1: writing style; holy shit, this was great. Hane Blank could write grocery lists and I think I would pay her for them. it was the perfect balance of funny and serious, delivering all the facts in manners which were necessary. 10/10, I loved it.
+1: content; heteronormativity is overrated.
+1: breakdown; I really liked the breakdown of information in this book, it set good pacing (even if it was taking me 2 mins per page due to annotations)
+1: annotations; I really hope one of my friends is like "oh, what's that?" and then I can flip through this book to show them my annotations. Yeah, this was technically a textbook for me, but I lowkey annotated it like a leisure read.
-1: density; even though it is funny and relatable, it is pretty dense.
