I’ve realized that when I review books, specifically the ones I don’t like, I only mention the things I didn’t like. So for this one (even though there wasn’t much that I liked) let’s start there.

This book has a really fun premise, gods living in the modern world is always something that I look forward to. Even though it’s kind of really badly written it’s still entertaining and it’s not hard to get through it, the short chapters help. Some of the characters were fun too, specially Hermes.

Now, onto my issues. First and foremost, this book is REALLY predictable, I was surprised by basically nothing in this book, it was entertaining but not exciting. The writing doesn’t help it at all either, could it be worse? yes, I’ve read worse actually, but I still cannot turn a blind eye. It’s worse at the start, or maybe just more noticeable, but even though it gets better it doesn’t get… good. Also so many things are left unresolved and so many others contradict themselves.

Most of the characters (if not all) lack so much depth it’s not even funny. Obviously, the greek gods already exist, and you can fall back onto what myths said about them and what their powers are, but throughout this books it felt like each and every one of the characters had 1 (ONE) trait, and that was it, and they exploited this to eye rolling extents.

To piggyback off that, a lot of these traits were talked about in very childish manners in the name of humor. Yes, sex is funny, nerds are funny, can we find something funnier now, please?

I can understand that this was trying to be more of a low stakes, easy and fun read… but it wasn’t fun.

To finish this off, I’m just gonna say this book brings nothing to the table. Greek gods acting basically the same they acted in greek myths, re-tellings of things that have been re-told a thousand times already. Nothing new, no changes, no new stories, no nuance, no nothing basically. If you are thinking about reading this I would just recommend reading some greek classics and you would get the same but ten times better.
