This book? My favorite in the entire Brittanee Nicole universe so far —yes, that includes both the Boston Bolt and Revenge Games series. Trouble is everything I didn’t know I needed and more. It’s a beautifully written MMF, age gap, small town romance that brings the perfect balance of spice, sentiment, and emotional depth.
We follow Declan (fire chief and Liv’s brother from Mother Faker), Cade (goalie coach for Brooks from Pucking Revenge), and Melina (a pop star and close friend of Lake from the Revenge era) as they navigate a relationship that’s both healing and electric. Declan and Cade’s decades-long friendship is the heart of the story—Cade’s been openly bisexual and a bit of a playboy, but there’s something deeper between them. When Melina escapes an abusive relationship and seeks refuge with Declan, she’s introduced to Cade… and the three of them begin a journey that’s equal parts vulnerable, sexy, and soul-soothing.
There’s still that signature found family vibe that Brittany Nicole fans know and love, but this one is a bit more intimate and character-focused. It doesn’t get quite as overwhelming as Hockey Boy did in terms of cameos and chaos—this story stays grounded in the connection between Declan, Cade, and Melina, and it’s all the stronger for it.
Add in some holiday warmth, a touch of kink (hello, shibari!), and the kind of chemistry that leaps off the page, and Trouble becomes an unforgettable read. It’s fast-paced, heartfelt, spicy, and healing all at once. Truly, it was everything I was looking for—and then some.
