By the Sword by Mercedes Lackey

3.0

Re-reading some childhood favorites because... well... although Mercedes Lackey has in many ways become a bit cookie cutter, her early books were charming and addressed issues like feminism and growing up to follow your own path quite a lot. This one stuck out to me most especially because the main character starts off young, but finds a new path when fully an adult. A little bit familiar.
